Topic: Is your loft safe
Well, after modifying my Young Bird loft at the end of 2006, I always wondered if the loft is built right to give me the best performance for the buck. After placing the young pigeons in the loft in 2007 I just knew this design is going to be just right. Darkening the loft always presents a problem regarding ventilation. This raises a question in my mind on the health of the young birds. Respitory problems can destroy my Young bird Season if your not careful.
I had a very good season with my babies, but I still had a problem to over come by making my loft safe for these young pigeons. You know that every bird in your loft has their own personallity. Some pigeons like to be the boss of the loft and others just want to be left alone, and others just want to see what is behind the door no matter what happens.
During the early days of a young bird just out of the nest, a favorite was born, "Sylvan Bull". After the 2nd day in the loft he was boss of the loft. he held that trait throughout the racing season. one day I walked in the loft and found "Sylvan Bull" hanging upside down. His leg was hooked on the release door of the loft, trying to get into the hen section. Well you know what, the loft wasn't safe at all.
